Greetings!
I humbly extend the invitation to pursue our tidings
and collection of absolute nonsense :)
Let me start with our general announcements of the day
- Our song of the day was: Until I found you by Stephen Sanchez
(it's our soft song and there was once a wish that someone loved either of us enough to write something like this, but alas, we will never ask for it and won't tell anyone about it because we're middle children and it is what it is... also ew attention and feelings)
- The lowest gas price that we saw was 4.19 in New Mexico (I’ve changed this multiple times since getting
to NM, it keeps going down…)
- The highest gas price of the day was 5.69 somewhere someplace
- The middle child of the day: Dashul Robert Parr
"My mommy and daddy didn't pay enough attention to me so I gaslit my elementary school teacher and acted out"
- Aggressive signs for today:
???????
LAST EXIT
Large deer type animal crossing sign
Just drive arrive alive
HELP WANT
As for the proceedings of the day…
NEVADA IS HOT
We woke up this morning and it was so hot
Like 33º C or (what is that... um) somewhere in the upper 90s F?
Either way, toasty
Brutal temperatures
We are not built for these temperatures
I already miss the Pacific Coast... can we go back? ~ Elena
ALSO
The car is just so hot
Ugh
Crying
We went to the Hoover Dam
They checked our car
For WEAPONS
But like it makes sense I guess
We were approved for entry and we were all good
We got the the parking lot
Gotta climb the stairs up to the dam walkway bridge lookout thing
That was a lot of work, it was hot and they were stairs
“everything I know about the hoover dam is from Percy Jackson… and that's only 60% true ~ Jess
We made it to the lookout bridge and took some photos
BUT it was really hot so we didn’t stay very long
We both bought little souvenir water bottles from the vending machines, they’re metal and reusable and have a picture of a goat on them
Worth the 5 dollars and 10 cents
We drove for a little while longer before stopping to buy more water
We are severely dehydrated still
We both bought 3 liters of water
We tried to check the oil but the sun made that a little hard
The dip stick also has no words on it so that doesn’t make it any easier
Jess played a little game when crossing from the right to the left side of the road and back again
“Could she switch lanes without hitting the grooves in the middle of the white liens”
Out of the total 25 times that Jess switched lanes, she managed to win her game 8 times
8/25 = 32%
She tried her best (it’s better than she did on the Japanese Buzzfeed quiz… where she got a 26%)
We passed a sign that had a large deer-like creature on it
Jess said “deer crossing?” Elena said “deer? Elk? Caribou? IDK man, something with antlers…”
We stopped at the beginning of historic route 66 to switch divers because Jess had a ZOOM We drove on the route for a little while and experienced an odd collection of sequential road signs
They were strange
But fun
We stopped in Flagstaff for about 30 minutes, we took pictures in the public library and made sandwiches in the car (at 3:00) refilled our water bottles (that's 9 liters of water in the car guys)
And then boosted
Not the bumper to bumper traffic on the highway coming out of Flagstaff
Taking an exit literally shaved two hours off of our arrival time
Pain
Anyways
The clouds are super cool
And being able to see the rain falling into spots on the desert is pretty cool
We saw three rainbows today :)
Clouds are cool when they are shaped like things
We found a few fun shapes today
We have lost an hour of our lives to the time zone gods as we head back East
How much sleep will we be getting from here on out?
You don’t know
And neither do we…
Guess we’ll just have to wait and see
We reached Gallup, New Mexico
It was not as hot
But it was darker than we anticipated
(we have to adjust to driving when it gets dark again because yikes)
GUYS
THERE'S A GIANT (GROCERY STORE) YAY
We couldn’t find our hotel for a while…
Apple maps took us to some obscure location
Google maps seems to be more reliable this time around
Will consider keeping it in use
WE are sleeping promptly
The water in the hotel was slimy
Bad water texture...
yucky
Don’t litter
It’s bad for the planet
But should you ever find yourself in the post trash-alyptic
Befriend a cockroach.
