Day 17: A Day of Driving through Time Zones

Hello everyone! Does this post feel a little early to you?

GREAT

If it does, that means that we actually got to sleep at a decent hour after getting only 5 ish hours of sleep the night before

If not,

Then please ignore all previous comments as we are still suffering from a perpetual lack of sleep…

Once again staving off Michael's spooky lamp

We did a lot of driving today, so not too many pictures of us

We also didn't get out cameras today because we just needed a little bit of a break

The regular announcements of the day can be found below :)

- The song of the day was Meant to be Yours (from Heathers the musical)

- The lowest gas price that we saw 3.55 (what a steal!)

- The highest gas price that we saw 4.89 (still not terrible compared to California)

- Aggressive road signs

  • OBEY TRAFFIC SIGNS

  • Road WILL Flood

  • Stop for school bus (in the middle of a highway)

  • Cannibal draw (someone tell me what a draw is)

  • Bridge gets icy (In Texas…)

The signs have improved as we head back east, pure comedy

The middle child of the day is the one and only Bruno Madrigal

"my mother puts way to much pressure on me so I'm going to run away but actually just live in the walls"

And now for the daily updates:

We repacked the car last night, and the way we did it opened up so much space that we actually didn’t struggle putting our backpacks in this morning!

(Alexander, we are coming for your place as car Tetris king)

We got out of bed at like 7:30 (at least Elena did cuz she is non functional in the mornings, but Jess probably got out of bed earlier then that?)

Despite this fact, we still managed to check out and be on the road by 8:03

nothing out here

When we set our map this morning, we were expecting it to take 9 hours to reach San Antonio from Roswell, but the map pulled an uno reverse card on us and said it would only take about 7 hours and 45 minutes??

We were really confused, cuz when we were planning the trip, we got 9 hours for this drive

How? I don’t know either

Ask google maps

We lost another hour today, but it worked out that we lost the hour somewhere between 11-1 and so we just ate lunch during that time

Just a bit before we stopped for lunch

We saw a FENNEC FOX (SCREEEEE)

He was so small and dusty

He had big pointy ears

Elena loved him so much

Little angel on earth

We experienced a 140 mile stretch of straight road, on which the speed limit was like maybe 55

Safe to say

Elena did not go 55 on the road

But neither did anyone else because this is Texas

So it was fine.

We passed lots of little oil wells in the fields

Working at killing the earth as we know it with every little up and down motion they make

Hmm, yummy

But directly next to the oil wells

Was agriculture??? Do people really grow food that close to where they literally suck the oil out of the earth? Someone explain this to me please

Is that food safe…?

Pididdle on an 18 wheeler… scary

We managed to lose an applesauce to the car abyss…?

RIP

Our map died at some point when we had no service so we had to sort of just guess

Elena panicked and was like, go north?

North wasn’t an option

We went east but that was right so it worked out…

The closer we get to the east, the more intense the road rage becomes…

We’re middle children, we have issues :)

GUYS

We got to San Antonio really early!! We picked up a pizza and headed for our Airbnb

So cozy

It has sliding barn doors

Yay :)

Elena was very excited about that.

Be on the look out for some unposted favorites!

Rolling outta San Antonio in our super advanced car

It's dinosaur powered in the worst way possible...
