Day 19: Street Jazz and 200 dollar tickets

Top of the evening to ya

Hopefully everything is back in order tonight

The daily announcements are as follows:

The song of the day was the superior live cover of Free Bird by Midnight Crisis (a small band from Memphis that was playing today, shoutout to Will for his epic guitar riff)

The lowest gas price: 3.99

The highest gas price: 4.68

Aggressive signs:

  • MEN WORKING

  • HURRICANE EVAC ROUTE

  • Lynyrd Skynyrd Monument EXIT 8

  • Beat the heat with a frozen treat (vaguely threatening, no?)

  • DRIVE SMART MISSISSIPPI

  • SLOW DOWN MEMPHIS

Middle child of the day: Thor Odinson

"my parents were emotionally stunted so I am also that, and also have brotherly attachment issues"

As Sam and Bucky, we thoroughly enjoyed causing ruckus and mayhem in New Orleans this morning

Though we didn’t tinker with any boats or whatever

We did wander around some train tracks (they were practically asking to be walked on)

WE ALSO ATE BEIGNETS AND THEY WERE YUMMY AND HOT AND COVERED IN POWDERED SUGAR

They were delightful

We both bought three - Elena ate her three and Jess ate two - we have saved the last beignet and Elena will probably eat it later (with much delight and glee)

Thanks to Nichole and Tim for the recommendation to visit Cafe Du Monde

There were also street jazz/blues performers right outside of the cafe

There were lots of brass instruments but tragically no saxophones (so we just listened to a lot of trumpet this morning…) (JAZZ TUBA!!!!)

We made a fun little square around Jackson Square - we took pictures - but we both also stopped in a cute little trinkets store mostly because there was a Zero puppet and a large Plague Doctor squishmallow… joy

After we both bought neither of those things (Jess bought a little mystery Marvel thing and Elena decide to buy some too) WE boosted

YUH

Elena learned today that Jess is actually afraid of birds

But she keeps taking pictures of them, so like ???

“From a distance they’re fine… but if you look at them too hard… they’ve got these beady little eyes… that bird wouldn’t hesitate to peck my eyes out”

But she takes pictures like this...

We drove for a little while

And then

Magic

We stopped at a gas station for gas

And then we ate lunch

AT 1:45

Wow

That’s really big for us

After lunch we were talking about the fact that we saved a lot of time - we ate relatively quickly and we left New Orleans sooner than we had anticipated - Elena also speeds…

So we cut about 30 minutes off of our arrival time :)

We are excellent drivers

Road Work Ahead signs are filled with lies and sadness,

And therefore violate our human rights under the Geneva Convention

Quit lying to us, road work signs

We arrived in Mississippi

(really we just drove through)

We decided to look and see how much it costs to visit Graceland, because it's cool and why not? We’re going to Memphis, so let’s live it up

We haven’t really done tourist things except for the potato museum and visiting the Funko store

BUT THE TICKETS TO VISIT GRACELAND WERE 200 DOLLARS

OMG

The Cheapest tickets were 50 dollars, and that was literally just for the tour of the custom private jets this man owned (You don’t even get to see inside the planes)

Wild stuff

WE HAVE ARRIVED IN TENNESSEE

Why am I here

Someone please tell me...

We drove past Graceland because diving past it is free

We saw the jets

There are two of them

One small one and one large one

Imagine having that much money

Will never be me

Though we got to Memphis at 5:00 and our dinner reservation isn’t available until 7:30

We have never actually taken more than like an hour max to take pictures

So either we will have a lot of pictures

Or we will just wander around a smidge

Because everything in Memphis closes at 5?

We walked around Beale Street for a little while :)

We enjoyed it thoroughly - we went to a little music shop and Jess bought a vinyl with David Bowie’s face on it, and Elena bought music note earrings and a Led Zeppelin pin for Jess

We walked up and down the street and enjoyed it thoroughly - except it’s pretty hot so like we are sweaty

We decided to hang out outside for a little bit because it was windy and that felt really nice

We sat in the shade :)

Then there was a guy that came up to us and was like “y’all photographers?”

We chatted with him for a while

He was really excited - he showed us his art - he asked to see our art

The whole encounter was rather awkward but it was cute and wholesome

We went and sat in the car after

Jess called her mom and we edited / worked on some things while we waited for our Hard Rock reservation

Which came earlier than expected (the reservation was for 7:30 - we got the notification at 7:12 that it was ready so we booked it over to the restaurant

GUYS There was like a live band playing there tonight

Best thing in the world

We walked in right as they started playing Free Bird or something

It was incredible

They were so good

also there was a lot of cool music stuff

We were at the restaurant from 7:20 to 9 ish because we were enjoying the music so much

It was the second time we’ve eaten out and probably the best decision we've made besides going to the FUNKO store

PEAK

What a way to end the day.

Laugh with your besties

make fun of other people together

we do it!

and we have a great time :)
