Day 8: Driving to Billings (never found Wyoming)

Top of the evening to ya

Salutations from Montana

and

GUYS

WE’VE BEEN DRIVING FOR LITERALLY A WEEK, AND WE’RE ONLY IN MONTANA (but we have gained two hours, with one more hour yet to gain, before we promptly lose all of those gained hours when we turn around…)

Today’s song of the day was Bicycle Race by Queen (we thought we were EXCELLENT Banjos, but we make even BETTER bicycle bells - 自転車の鈴 :))

The lowest gas price that we saw today was 4.53 - alas that is not what we ended up paying when we got gas because we are stupid…

Aggressive signs for the day:

  • DRIVE SOBER OR GET PULLED OVER

  • YOUR LIFE MATTERS, BUCKLE UP!!!

In case you don't believe us
These are real signs that we see

To start off the day:

We said we were going to sleep until like 10 right? Well we tried at least, Elena was up at like 9, and Jess got up at like 9:50 (but we got our morning post up around the time that we expected to anyways)

Jess and Elena have developed a call and response form of communication

Whether that’s screaming “AaaaAAhAhAHh” at the top of our lungs from across the hotel room at each other or reading every “road work ahead” sign on the road and shouting “I sure hope it does” back (every single time, without fail)

In da car, chillin

The other call and response is saying “Oh NO” in a vaguely British accent, and it happens like 5 times before we stop.

We stopped for lunch (and also for gas) in Casper :)

There were like boxed crickets at the gas station, and Elena just went “look, crickets.”

Jess said “do you, do you want some?” but the response was simply “no, I’m just pointing them out. Crickets. Funky fresh…”

And the girl that was running the register thought that was the best reaction to the crickets she had ever experienced, and was so happy (it was really cute).

Elena called her mom because ensuring that parental units know we’re still alive is critical to existing

Jess found four leaf clovers (which promptly wilted after being in the car for, like, literally 2 minutes)

WE ATE LUNCH AT A REASONABLE HOUR TODAY (we ate like, around noon??? Unheard of guys. Absolutely unheard of)

WE ARE OUT OF MANOZE (pronounced Mah-Naw-ZZ - it’s actually a problem we bought soup but not the stuff that we use for lunch every day…)

Also, Elena dropped a piece of cheese, so yesterday was floor tomato via Jess... Today was floor extra thin cheese via Elena (tragedy)

We are once again driving - there are more hills this time around - the pretty hay bales are a thing of the past…

I lied

We found more hay bales

An update:

We reached Montana and looked for gas, we did not succeed - in fact, we passed two decrepit gas stations that definitely were super sketchy, like really sketchy, “stop meth” was spray painted on the one…

We finally found a gas station with functioning gas pumps, and then our single brain cell failed. We couldn't figure out how to make the gas pump, and then some Montana resident was like Y’all are stupid, flip the little gas pump thingy up cuz “it's old” while laughin at us the whole time.

Today has not been a good gas day...

We have done more research on MIDDLE CHILD SYNDROME and read a whole bunch of articles that really hit different (they hurt to read because they just called us out…)

  • We are desperate for attention and connection and will do anything to keep them…

  • The famous middle child of the day is Jennifer Aniston / Rachel Green (a middle child in real life, and also getting paid to be a middle child… this is non relatable content, imagine getting paid for having middle child issues…)

We have yet to see cows, it is emptier than the suggested existence of Qyoming, to the absolute surprise of no one, does Montana actually exist

I lied. We saw cows

Audience opinion required, tell us, tell us right now (very excited for the open endless sky though, no lie there)

We stopped in Billings for a little while today - took some pictures and then proceeded to actually pay for sandwiches to eat with our soup tonight (we may be eating real food but also soup)

We once again needed to do errands before getting to our location of sleeping for the night because neither of us would have wanted to leave had we gone straight to the Airbnb

We edited and read books to make the most of laundry time (洗濯の時間だよね)

We decided to stop and do laundry at a coin laundry because clean clothes are sort of important I guess… It felt a little bit like doing laundry at uni, 30 minutes in the wash and then multiple groups of 6 minutes because we’re really trying really hard not to shrink anything.

We are now eating our soup (Elena’s is cold again, heathen) and will promptly be sleeping

From under the endless open skies

And the stars that are likely falling.

P.S.

here are some pictures of Elena and Jess doing random things :)
